Anyone who prefers sleeping in a white dentist office and swears by the credo less is more is free to do so. But Slaaphuisje Chutzpah is nothing like that. Slaaphuisje Chutzpah is hysterical, daring, artistic, and unapologetically tacky. The lamp is made of spaghetti and the bathroom looks like a funfair. Interior design is not a serious affair here; it’s the essentials that are meant to amaze. Slaaphuisje Chutzpah stands for more humor in everyday life, with a keen eye for craftsmanship. Everything inside the cabin is created by (mostly Dutch) designers and artists.

Fairytale Drenthe
The old farmhouse where Sebastian and Mignon live sits on the edge of Borger. The village is quite well-known, as it proudly hosts the largest hunebed (prehistoric stone monument) in the Netherlands. Borger is set up for visitors, and the area offers countless activities.
From Slaaphuisje Chutzpah, several Natura2000 areas are easy to reach. You can also take beautiful walks directly from the cabin. The Drenthe landscape feels truly fairytale-like. It’s no coincidence that so many legends about witte wieven (mysterious mist women) originate here.
Not a fan of mud on your shoes? Borger is well connected to public transport. Within half an hour you can be in Emmen, Assen, or Groningen. (Hello? Did someone mention the most fun city in the Netherlands? Groningen is amazing!)

Food & drinks
Slaaphuisje Chutzpah serves as many organic products as possible and is vegetarian by default. When booking, you can indicate if you prefer to eat plant-based. According to your preferences, the fridge will be stocked with homemade and locally sourced treats.
Wellness
Sheltered by trees, there is a wood-fired hot tub for you to enjoy. In the future, a sauna will be added as well. In summer, you can make use of the large above-ground pool.
Smart TV & games

The garden
Slaaphuisje Chutzpah has French doors opening onto a 3,000 m² biodiverse garden. The front part of the garden shows English and Asian influences. The vegetable garden is a relaxed, Waldorf-style setup. The back part was created in collaboration with the Drents Landschap, featuring native plants to attract local wildlife. There’s always a spot that suits you. You can choose between peace and quiet or a lively atmosphere. Sit on your own little terrace, or join us in the vegetable garden where we love to have a drink.

Seasons: collect them all
In Drenthe, you’ll need to surrender a little to the seasons. We do the same. In summer, we harvest from the vegetable garden around the pool and bake pizzas in the stone oven. In winter, we watch films, spend hours in the hot tub, and make fresh soups. By the way, Vincent van Gogh wrote that he wanted to visit Drenthe specifically in winter, because he imagined the nature then to be extraordinarily magical - and the man had taste, let’s be honest. We make sure you experience each season to the fullest, for example by preparing treats that perfectly match the weather. Especially in winter, we’re happy to discuss how you envision your stay.

Slaaphuisje Chutzpah is a luxury outdoor hotel room with air conditioning. The pantry is fully equipped with a fridge, microwave (with popcorn), organic coffee and tea, snacks, and drinks. And of course, we take care of the dishes.

We encourage you to explore the surroundings; for example, there’s a great breakfast bakery in the village. Celebrating something, or fancy a full day in bed? Just let us know; we can make it happen. Especially in winter, there’s plenty of cooking and cozy moments to enjoy.
Capsule machine
Slaaphuisje Chutzpah features a vintage capsule machine that accepts €2 coins. Its contents are diverse and ever-changing: tiny works of art, playful surprises, and thought-provoking items. Feel free to give it a spin as many times as you like!
