About us
Sebastian (originally from Zeeland) and Mignon (a Dordrecht “sheephead”) fell in love in Rotterdam and moved to Drenthe. There, the economist and the artist got married in their own garden. All the guests were welcome to pitch a tent. People ate pizza with their champagne; some in tuxedos, others in football shirts. There was a chaotic bingo and no fewer than sixty flavors of chips. Someone remarked, “It’s as if Quentin Tarantino wrote a rom-com.”
Sebastian and Mignon enjoyed sharing their wedding day so much that they didn’t want it to end. The beautiful garden, the homemade pizzas, the crémant de Bourgogne that they personally smuggled across the border; the cliché that joy doubles when shared couldn’t have been truer. It wasn’t long before converting the garage into Slaaphuisje Chutzpah became inevitable.
When Sebastian isn’t changing sheets, he works as a teacher in special needs education. When Mignon isn’t arranging charcuterie boards, she creates art exploring the sentiment of the Netherlands.
On the property, you might also meet two sweet dogs: Pepijn, the elderly gentleman, and Lizzy, a true beauty queen.
Where do you get the nerve?
If you Google what Chutzpah (pronounced: khut-spà) means, the search engine might even ask if you want to know whether it’s a compliment or an insult. Chutzpah roughly translates to bombastic bravado. Unconventional boldness. Daring audacity. Chutzpah can leave people puzzled: is a decisive master at the helm, or a cheeky fool? One thing can always be said about a person with chutzpah: admirable, they most certainly are.
